Entry from: Lisbon, Portugal Entry Title: “Lisbon” Entry: “Day one – we land in Lisbon and head for the hotel, Raddisson. Unfortunately our room was next to some giant turbine things that made such a noise you could barely think straight. Fortunately, it was switched off at night and they moved us to a new room the following day! We headed out to the underground system. Having got used to Spain we bought the 10 trip ticket. Only to discover that unlike the other countries you cannot use it for two people! The machine won’t take 20 euro notes and we barely manage to scrape enough change to get a return ticket for one. One gentleman was kind enough to offer us a euro, luckily we managed without it. How nice though. The first stop was the area Praca dos Restauradores. Lots of lovely little restaurants where we enjoyed our first Portuguese cuisine. Mark had his pork and clams (which he had already selected before heading out to Portugal). Really nice little area. Mark did his specialty..he asked how to say thank you and then promptly said it in Italian! We then wandered around the shopping area nearby (of course everything was closed but it was still nice) down to Praca de Comercio with its statue and then caught the last metro back. En route we saw the Elevador de Santa Justa which looked great at night …
